TEEN GRIEF WORKSHOP

Saturday November 29, 2025

Kings County Family Resource Centre

Kentville, NS

Bernie's Buddies helps kids and youth live again after a death loss.

Our teen workshop is for ages 13 to 16 and takes place in a peer group where everyone participating has had a death loss. Our workshops feature a therapy dog visit*, yoga movement and meditation, and a creative project to encourage sharing of grief experiences. Through these activities, we learn to help ourselves and each other navigate big grief feelings so that everyone belongs and no one feels alone.

LOCATION: Kings County Family Resource Centre - 4 Calkin Drive, Kentville NS (map HERE)

*We do our very best to offer therapy dog visits - their participation depends on handler teams' availability through our partner agency.

Parents/caregivers are welcome to stay and observe our session, connect with each other or take this time for themselves (there are several places nearby to have a coffee or meal or enjoy a walk in Miner's Marsh).

FAQ

Does the death loss have to be a relative or have occurred recently?

  • The death does not have to be recent - grief can and does evolve over time. As our young grievers experience new phases of development, so too will their grief. The loss also does not have to be a relative. Children and youth often have people in their lives who are not relatives that have made a significant impact and their loss can be equally profound.

My child's age falls outside 13 to 16 years. Can he/she still participate?

  • Our goal is to ensure the focus for our group is age and developmentally appropriate for our participants. Please contact us directly if your child is outside of this age range and you feel they'd like to join us.

My child attended a previous Bernie's Buddies session - can he/she participate again?

  • Absolutely! Grief is experienced over time and although we may cover some of the same topics or activities, these can resonate in different ways during additional sessions, encouraging our kids to discover new skills to express themselves or feel supported in their grief.
