GRIEF GOES SKIING

WINTER WEEKEND DAY CAMP

Saturday February 7 and Sunday February 8 2026

GRIEF GOES SKIING is a weekend day camp for 10 to 12 year olds who've experienced a death loss to create connections through trying new things together.

Our locations will be Windsor and Ski Martock, Nova Scotia.

Saturday February 7 (10am - 2pm) we will:

  • meet a therapy dog,

  • move our bodies with yoga exercise,

  • learn about grief - what it is, how it can feel, and

  • create a special art project.

  • *supplies and lunch provided

Sunday February 8 (9am - 4pm) we will:

  • participate in a group beginner ski lesson at Ski Martock (no previous skiing experience necessary!)

  • play grief-themed games as we ski.

  • *group lesson, ski rental, lunch and transportation from a central meeting place in Windsor to and from Ski Martock are included

Our focus will be on demystifying the grief experience through trying new skills together while creating a sense of community with curiosity and respect.

Group size is limited to 8 participants. Participants must participate in Saturday's workshop to attend Sunday's ski day.

FAQ

Does the death loss have to be a relative or have occurred recently?

  • The death does not have to be recent - grief can and does evolve over time. As our young grievers experience new phases of development, so too will their grief. The loss also does not have to be a family member. Children and youth often have people in their lives who are not relatives that have made a significant impact and their death loss can be equally profound.

My child's age falls outside 10 to 12 years. Can he/she still participate?

  • We do our best to ensure our group activities are age and developmentally appropriate for our participants. Please contact us directly if your child is outside of this age range and you feel they'd like to join us.

My child already knows how to ski - will he/she be required to participate in the group lesson?

  • Yes - because we are offering a peer support event, it's important that our group builds community by learning and being together through all our activities. Our kids who have skied before can help cheer on our first timers!

My child attended a previous Bernie's Buddies session - can he/she participate again?

  • Absolutely! Grief is experienced over time and although we may cover some of the same topics or activities, these can resonate in different ways during additional sessions, encouraging our kids to discover new skills to express themselves while feeling supported in their grief.
